Discovery en Español Strengthens Its Automotive Programming Offer With New Seasons of Popular Original Series ‘Mexicánicos’ and ‘Texas Trocas’

Miami, Florida, May 5, 2016 – This month, the talented Mexican mechanic Martín Vaca, star of the popular Discovery en Español automotive series, MEXICÁNICOS, and his team, are back with new challenges and more of the incredible transformations that have captivated Hispanic audiences for two consecutive seasons. The new installment of MEXICÁNICOS (#mexicanicos) premieres May 9 and will air Mondays at 10PM E/P during the network’s ‘Lunes de motores’ programming block.
Special guests this season include Mexican singer and comedian Lola Cortés who visits Vaca’s Guadalajara workshop with a special request: to make her Corvette 2000 into a 1950s model. In another episode, world boxing champion Ana María Torres, aka “La Guerrera” (The Warrior), asks Vaca to personalize her 1954 Ford Custom Line. She wants to add a boxing glove emblem on the front of the car and an image of the World Boxing Council’s Diamond Belt under the hood.
In 2015, the first and second seasons of MEXICÁNICOS were a big success for Discovery en Español.
Season 1, which premiered in March, propelled the network to the #1 spot during its time slot among Spanish language Pay-TV networks across persons, men and women aged 18 to 49[1]. Season two, which was launched in November, delivered a stellar performance during its premiere week, averaging 153K viewers among A18-49 on premiere night and 266K among total viewers[2]. The show also qualified as Pay-TV’s #1 10pm telecast among all Spanish language networks[3] and also ranked Discovery en Español as #1 in its timeslot across persons, men and women aged 18-49[4]. The series remained a top performer throughout the duration of its six-episode broadcast.
TEXAS TROCAS, another popular automotive original series from Discovery en Español, will start filming a third season at the end of this month. This reality series centers on Raúl Méndez Senior and his wife, Lupita, who are the heart and soul of the business known as Texas Chrome, located just south of San Antonio. In partnership with their two sons, Raúl and Rolando, the couple has carved out a very successful truck renovation shop, which today employs dozens of people and owns close to 100 trucks. The new season of TEXAS TROCAS is slated to air toward the end of the year. The program is a production of Discovery Studios, LLC.
MEXICÁNICOS was produced for Discovery en Español by Drako Media, under the direction of Gerardo Brandy, in coproduction with High Noon Entertainment. The production was made under the supervision of Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic’s Michela Giorelli, Rafael Rodríguez and Carlos de la Paz.
